"Without a doubt, all moving pictures present a worldview. As parents we need to equip our children with the tools needed to decipher those messages."

-Steve Mitchell, Co-creator of Caves and Shadows

Enrollment is now open for our first online course offering,

"A Study Of The Cinema".

A Classical Approach

Caves and Shadows: A Classical Approach to Cinema Studies is a multi-tiered cinema studies curriculum specifically designed for homeschool, classical, and Christian learning environments. Caves and Shadows will provide students, parents, and teachers with a complete, year-long study of cinematic literacy.

The study will explore the individual’s role as both audience and creator in an environment that offers unlimited access to the artificial moving image. The program will focus on the grammar, logic, and rhetoric of cinema and how film can be used to specifically deliver information, shape thoughts, form our affections, and influence culture.

We are currently enrolling students and families in our first online course offering, A Study of The Cinema. More information about our class can be found here.

"I know the creators and can vouch for the quality! Steve changed the way I watch movies, years ago, and it’s so cool to see this project come about."

"I am forever indebted to Steve for encouraging me to pick up a camera and begin telling stories in my own voice. Thank the Good Lord for godly men like Steve Mitchell who are willing to effectively train and instruct others through film."

"The average student and adult have cinema sea legs. We have been whisked away in the deep and rocky waters of modern cinema - gorging on film, thoughtlessly assimilating to cultural ideology, and sailing along by the fast and furious winds of Hollywood. Caves and Shadows is the first of its kind and the best chance we have at walking with our feet firmly beneath us."

- Brian G. Daigle, Headmaster of Sequitur Classical Academy and author of Street-Fighting Logic
